So I realized if I don’t update in the next 8 days or so

I lose my streak of updating x months in a row. I do not count stuff that is not worth counting. I don’t really care about keeping it up but I’ll post anyways.

https://i0.wp.com/s16.postimg.cc/5hiiht2qd/egeh.png

so I’ve checked out some fansub review sites because I learn about translating from the examples that are given. it’s fascinating to see the different ways things can be translated, misunderstood, misconstrued etc. I’m a proponent of liberal translations as opposed to literal translation. but even then there are degrees of liberalness and I don’t support extreme liberal translations though it may depend on the the line, scene, show, etc.

http://8ths.in/

The bloggers really know what they’re talking about with the translations. they’ll point out a translation that’s stilted or just doesn’t do the line justice and give their translation take on it. sometimes it’s a really good translation that I think I would never come up with.

I have no interest in the animes themselves though lol.

and here’s an old OLD OLD entry that i never posted just because I wasn’t satisfied with it.

I got to see the episode of top runner (a music show where they interview the artist for 40 minutes or so) in HIGH quality starring MISS SHIINA RINGO (she’s divorced 😦 with child or children ) thanks to clubbox.
It was so much fun watching it. Fun is not the right word. I just really like this singer and iwant to find out more about her especially via tv shows. She doesn’t go on tv all that much and not all her past appearances on tv/radio are up online with streaming or on clubbox UNFORTUNATELY. this one is definitely worth watching for the shiina ringo fans. if your japanese is not up to par you might get screwed with understanding her lol. I had trouble understanding her at parts. It’s not the japanese AT ALL. I know all the japanese that she used to express herself. I’ve come acrossed all those phrases and sayings and whatnot. I know al lthat stuff inside out. the problem i don’t feel like i’m understanding what she’s saying. it’s not incompetency on my japanese part, I just find her hard to understand. I feel the need to rewatch/rehear stuff she says. I know what it means and everything but I feel like I’m not understanding it. You know this kind of stuff happens in my native language english too with people that just speak in this way that is not easy to understand for me (like what the hell does days of FUTURE PAST mean for x-men. no i don’t want to watch the movie to find out) . Or at least I feel like I’m not getting the complete picture or i’m unsure of my interpretation of what she said. By all means i’m saying she’s a horrible speaker or she talks enigmatically or anything like that. maybe we’re just not on similar wavelenths lol. The performances were amazing and I still don’t undersatnd the lyrics fully lol. the thing with her lyrics is that even japanese don’t undersatnd and there’s definitely multiple ways to interpret her lyrics. Maybe that is her goal or maybe it’s not.
>> a little segway

so recently or maybe not anymore she produced 2 songs for ishikawa sayuri. the single is 暗夜の心中立て 石川さゆり anya no shinjuudate and no ididn’t know how to read a until i heard of this song. i THINK she’s also invovled with the production of the mv.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHWmi9iC_SI

so I enjoyed watching the PV and was able to catch random parts of the lyrics since it is sorta enka-ish with uncommon japanese. then i proceeded to watch the live performance which was amazing and the first time I saw it I was like I don’t understand this song lol… then the second time I watched it I realized I was just overwhelemed with the all the furigana and hiragana that doesn’t match what she’s singing… you know how in japanese they read kanji or hiragana differently from what it’s usually read. some examples…hmmm.

女 ひと
時間 とき
and for shiina ringo with the song ishiki or kuki there’s all these strange hiragana combo with the verbs that looks weird but it’s actually common ex 言ふ is read as いう it just looks weird but it’s pronunced normally. I think it has to do with archaic japanese and how they used to write it or read it like whatever.
so the 3rd time I watched it I was like oh this song’s pretty easy to understand lol. of course there’s still words I don’t know but I don’t feel like looking them up.
I just looked up one thing and oh boy there’s double meaning! that’s cool 😉
so for THE japnaese learners who read my blog try WATCHING IT and see what I mean.

SO back to the shiina ringo episode of top runner

Lots of interesting talk in the episode. I found it really interesting about the 9/11 thing because I didn’t know that was she was deeply affected by it and that a song was created because of 9/11… it’s news that was heard around the world so in that it’s not a big surprise. ever since she said oh because of 9/11 this songw was created I went to find out about songs MADE by japanese artists because of 9/11. there’s a bunch . I was surprised that the song by hito to yo something (the singer that speaks english, mandarin ? , and japanese) . tsudukemasu yoni was inspired by 9/11. I’ve heard it so many times on japanese tv, etc. It’s a famous song. I’ve heard them introduce the song but i never heard of the 9/11 thing. I want to look into more songs created from 9/11. by all means i mean it in the most positiv eway possible. I loved what shiina ringo said about her music and what she could do with it to be of help in anyway to 9/11 etc… spreading message of love or hope etc.. Music is wonderful like that. I loved the spiel she just spilled about 9/11, the difference her music can make, etc.
I don’t remember clearly but I think she said she considered retiring from music after having her child and then 9/11 happened…. anyways great episode, recommend to all shiina ringo lovers who understand japanese.
she also released her cover of yoake no uta for the shinsai / earthquake disaster in march 2011. ( the year is right?)
btw I love love love the song 中田 yuuji made for the people who were affected by the eartquake in japan in march 2011
p.s. i hate imageshack. i think my blogwill be full of x-ed out pictures and i no i am NOT paying 1 dollar a month or whatever.

su-su- && danshari~

So instead of writing a longass comprehensible blog entry about sentence-mining, immersion, anki-card format etc I’m gonna write about 2 words I came across recently. I’ve seen those blog posts and they always point out really obvious duh crap (probably to fill out the numbers 1.2.3.4.5..5 reminds me of top 5 anime threads which are just full of awful anime lol)… it’s so dumb i’m like if you need that crap pointed out to you, you’re probably too dumb to learn a language (which is sorta not true because you don’t have to be smart to be billingual etc).  those kind of blog entries usually require a lot of skimming to read for me lol. it’s a lot of bs and it’s just boring to read. usually people who write about taht kind of stuff usually suck at the language. lol. why do you want to listen to people like that.

so imma write about スースーする AND 断捨離.

スースーする
so I believe I first came across this on slayers next in the later episodes (seeing as it is one of the later episodes of course it was from an amazing scene with good writing and good voice-acting and everything). I didn’t look up what it means and I didn’t add it to anki because it seemed pretty clear what it means from the context of the way it was used and the context of the whole situation. there’s still room for misunderstanding i suppose since it’s just one instance i came across it so my understanding of this word is broad at this point. as much as my japanese improves in vocabulary, understanding, intuition there’s still that small  chance i get the meaning wrong.. for the most part i’m right and i know i’m right.

Recently I came across it watching god tongue’s 2nd pasta ingredient draft kaigi (ゴッドタン 20100519 「パスタの具材ドラフト會議」具材ドラフト會議第2彈 バナナマン 上原美優 ). I was half-expecting it to be boring because it sounds boring since it involves food but it was actually really interesting (it was sorta creepy since one of the talent on that episode committed suicide a few years ago? )and i wanted to see the first instance of this kikaku. I’ll explain what the ep is about so you know why it was so interesting. it’s a draft so it involves picking ingredientswith competition. none of the geinin+tv talent/binbou idol were informed about the kikaku they were just asked for 3 foods they like on the survey. when they got to the shooting of the episode they find out that they’re doing the draft kikaku again and the theme this time it’s PASTA. Last time they did it the theme was curry. of course some of the food just does not match lol…. or you’d think they don’t.

so at the tv studio each team or person writes out the food ingredient they want in their pasta to make the most delicious pasta. however if 2 teams write the same ingredient, nobody gets it. there’s strategy of the psychological nature. obviously everyone wants to the ra-yu etc etc.
https://i0.wp.com/i.imgur.com/DUdTPHS.jpg
so gekidan hitori’s team aka god tongue JAPAN went for the seafood and gekidan hitori was like I think the frisks (mints, tic tacs)’s cooling effect will make the dish goes with the seafood theme and really give it that special something lol. I was thinking hmm interesting theory

https://i0.wp.com/i.imgur.com/1kU58Gf.jpg
after they pick out the 3 ingredients to incorporate in the pasta,  a professional chef  made the pasta for each team. the seafood pasta was crabs, takoyaki (squid/ or octopus), and mints. so the chef did his thing with the crabs and takoyaki (he took off the outer layer so it’s more seafoody). for the mints i was thinking what is he gonna do. is there any way to salvage it? he takes out dough for the pasta noodles and he says i’m gonna put the mints in here. so he crushes them and incorporated them into the noodle by folding them into the flat dough and then later on putting it through that rolling machine and cutting it up into noodles.  evreyone’s comments while eating it was su-su- suru and the timing of the cooling effect is sorta delayed and gekidan hitori was saying that delay is about the same as the delay from eating an actual tic-tac mint.  uehara miu says at one point it tastes like a frisk at the end lol… so it sounds like it doesn’t match? gekidan hitori seems to lke the cooling effect so i guess the only way to find out if it’s realy good is to make it myself lol.

so anyways having exposure to this word in these 2 completely different scenarios really boosted my understanding of the word. both situations are very memorable and interesting.

https://i0.wp.com/i.imgur.com/l2CvFZu.jpg
another word that i came across in 2 totally different instances is danshari. i think it’s a really cool word 🙂
it was so strange! at the time, I just learned the word danshari from sakai masato off waratteittomo (he dansaries too much and has no hobbies. i cannot relate whatsoever!! AND his birthday is the same as kanno miho. they’re meant to be!), then i started watching my shabekuri episode from the middle because that’s where i left off with that man-whore comedian muramoto of WOMAN something. aND the tv show that he doesn’t want to go on again ever is called dansharian (a play on words off danshari). I totally recommend that shabkuri episode. it aired 2014 in february probably. it was recent. it was some interesting talk as in creepy lol 引く話で満載. it made me want to check out the m1 GRANPURI for this year. it was some interesting manzai though muramoto is heard to undersatnd/catch but i’m sure somebody transcribed it lol. otherwise, i have to ask somebody to~~

danshari a concept i want to incorporate more into my life for sure. The first time I heard it I was thinking why haven’t I heard of it before it’s sorta useful and then 5 mnutes later i hear it again lol. of course everybody on shabekuri undersatnds what danshari means so it must be a in the daily conversation scope as far as the vocab. usefulness/level is concerned.

>>
something i’ve noticed from watching slayers.  i got used to watching without any crap covering the screen for watching anime lol.. as in i prefer that 🙂
the video is 4 by 3 and i load the korean subs verticaly so it does not cover the screen whatsoever. i write down whatever i don’t understand or i want to re-listen beucase i think i didn’t hear it fully etc etc with the korean subs so i can go back it easily and not have to rewatch the whole episode to deal with the parts i had trouble with.  so it just bothered me a lot when i was watching with the japanese subs since i can’t make them vertical because that sub format sucks lol. for slayers evolution it’s 16:9 so the subs have to cover the screen.  for slayers revolution however there’s japanese subs so what i did was i watchd it raw and wrote down lines i have issues with in japanese while it’s playing and then i had no problem finding the lines i wrote down in the japanese .ass file for the most part.  i didn’t want to watch slayers revolution with subs because they can  be spoilerly (spoilerly as in i know what the person says before they say it which could become a source of boredom) even if i try to not read it or even if i delay it (since the lines are not split enough..though if you delay it enough it obviously won’t be)

but then for hanzawa and legal high i don’t really feel like watching it without japanese subs becaues there’s yougo and normal japanese people have trouble understanding that and some people in dramas just are not good at pronuncing japanese lol.  i’ll off-set the subs so it doesn’t show up before the talking (which leads to the spoiler boring thing)… and try my best to not read it unless i need to. my desire to watchg anime without crap covering the screen hasn’t transcended into my drama watching habits as of yet.

most boring episde of kinsuma ever?????????

https://i0.wp.com/imageshack.us/a/img69/7362/120717.png

so i can’t list all the eps of kinsumma i’ve seeeeeen but here’s a couple: tanoshingo’s akb48’s, the ex-av star now actress who was predicted to die 3years later by the fortune teller and died 3 years later, and the gotou maki episdoe.

so out of this i found eitherht e akb48 peiosde or the tanoshingo episode the most interesting., the thing with tanoshingo is he tells the same stories over and over on different shows so i knew a lot of what he said/was reenacted alrealdy 😦 but the part about the bullying i had no idea about so i was surprised bc of his “character” for TV. but for akb48 i heard a lot of stuff i didn’t know about. the kinsuma episode is worth watching for akb fans while that dodcumentrary is really boring so maybe that’s for hard-care fans? i’m curious abtout the new one. the one that includes sashihara’s transfe rto hkt48 as well as that girl who did it with ISSA.  so I recently watched gotou maki’s episode which was one of the most boring kinsuma eps i’ve ever seen out of the ones i recalled up there. kinsuma is good because we get to learn about  person and their hardships in their debut days. it’s sad and moving and interesting and all that stuff. sure gotou maki’s thing is sad with her mother father and brother but i saw no point with the episode. i would get the same thing out from reading wikipedia. the same emotions and whatnot. it was bc gotou maki’s interview or whateve rwas just… nothing. emptiness. all i was thinking as she was talking was wow she looks so pretty after plastic surgery but i personally prefer the natural lloooooook instead of the huge eyes. like in the akb episode, everyone’s comments during the intereviews was interesting and people were sometimes crying while they were talking or whatever but it was bc of what they were saying during the interview that made it interesting. but gotou maki just doesn’t say anything….. deep or inteeresting or anything. she’s like sniffling and crying and being in silence. i understand it’s sad that she went through that and whatever but it was just so boring… when i saw the episode with tanoshingo and akb48, i got something out of it but with her ep i got nothing.  if anyting, it just seems overdramatic since she doesn’t really articulate/speak very well about how she felt and how she is now and whtaever whatever. i’m just not impressed with her/interested in her as a person. I was googlingn her plastic surgery as i watching cause it was  boring and i just felikt like she was being fake.  bc the episode could’ve been interesting if she was being more real……….
http://face5.blog.fc2.com/blog-category-316.html

yes what happened to her is sad but you know what i was thinking the thing with her mom is so DUMB. it’s like if your mom is on the window with a weird gaze on her face, you dont’ answer your phone, you IGNORE IT, throw it on the floor, turn the ringing off… you don’t PICK UP say hello. i’m busy right now i’ll cal lyou back. hear a thud of a body hitting the ground and go   OMG she committed suiciide/it was an accident. i hated the reenactment a lot bc it just shows how dumb she is (she suspected her mom was going to commit suicide before the phone rang… she said something/acted worried) and then ansers the phone.
that’s one of the reaons i was like I don’t like THIS GIRL this episode sucks etc etc.

I don’t remember what she said in the interiew after that reenanctment ended but it wasn’t anything that she should’ve said like” i’m asuch a dumb bitch, i shouldn’t have don’e that. i regret that “: bc if she did, i wouldn’t be as pissed.

actually, now that i think about it maybe she made up some of the detials or exaggerated her story and that’s why i only got anger and frustration from the episode instead of being moved like from the other eps..

I reocmmend reading the comments by
anengageman
chapriyama_santaro
makosortchika
the other peple are sheeeeeeeps.

even if she asnswerd the phone, why you gotta look away from yo mom who is about to fall out the damn window. whether it was a suicide or an accident, her mom didn’t have to die right then.
– hm yeah people are listing contradictions and whatnot from the episode and reality.

i’ve seen interviews where after watching it change smy mind about that preson like oh there’s more to that perosn or against my predictions they’re acutally __ or they endured hardships in the beginning of their career or with something that i had no idea about etc etc. that’s why i like that kind of stuff, you learn about people… well in this case famous people and how they worked hard etc. so what i’m saying if you’re going to try to watch kinsuma, don’t decide on the show by the gotou maki ep lol.

that’s why i recommend reading the wiki if you care about this girl? it’s  alot faster and same emotional impact. but i personally don’t like/care about haro puro hello pro people? i like akb better… one is that i like akimoto yasushi’s song composition and lyrics better. there’s something special and catchy about the songs he makes ( I don’t like manatsu no summer sounds good WHATSOEVER THOUGH). though i’m not going to say it’s a classic or it’s in my top whatever or anything lol. i just like them.

Got a problem with that? you got a problem with that? come-back type of remark

kuirhara rui being hilarious as always… though unintentionally?  he’s gonna be on merengue no kimochi or that ep already aired. lookin’ forward to it!!! i think he’s gonna get big. he’s interesting to me and i like having negative people on tv representing negative peeps not on tv. also i love how the shows try to make him as happy as possible ie letting him meet perfume (do the introduction with perfume, talk to perfume about his favorite song etc etc) but he doesn’t smile no matter what!!! (an almost smile at most and it’s not even almost!!!) I hope to see his beautiful, pure smile one day. Of course this isn’t the only hilarious remark during his encounter/interaction with perfume.

he also said oh i’m glad i met you this year before next year at which time i’ll be gone (来年消える芸人などなど) but i hope he doesn’t show up on the shinro soudan thing. I don’t think he will but then again i liked joy but then i heard ariyoshi’s evaluation of him ad then i understood why he & the other geinin hate joy so much (I was sorta sad and disappointed in myself that i couldn’t figure this out on my own). But as faras i can tell joy is disappeared ? lol. I don’t think he deserves be on that ep but i could be wrong here.  and if he was it would be hilarious.

im so curious if he speaks english… i’ve wrote my hypothesis before anyways he seems to have goooooood music taste. listening to this 2012/08/14 栗原類 ラジオ【恋する夏曲】 & アプリ告知and recommended ben kweller – walk on me  and it sounds like awesome, chill american indie or is it british? he sounds american?  I reall yhate some of the american indie because i just hate the singer’s voice and it just sonds noisy but like any genre there is shitty and the top 10% of that genre that is pure awesome.

oooh they mentioned in the radio show that he’s doing a chakushin thing!!! i want it but i don’t want to spend money lol. he is so negative and i think the negativeness makes him so realistic and humble or at least he appears/seems that way.  please don’t commit suicide~ lol . wihch reminds me i hope the geinin people stop smoking because I don’t want them to die on me. they’re so interesting . htere’s an ame talk episode about the difficulties of quitting smoking  and i plan to watch it! though i have a billion crap on my que.

はるこ from 派遣の品格: それが何か

WRote about this drama in my jdrama reviews!

i GOOGLED it and it also says 口癖は「**ですがそれが何か?」 I thought she only said それが何か (saw the drama a few years ago) but it definitely makes sense that she uses in other ways toooooooooo.

So Haruko’s catchphrase from haken no hinkaku really stood out to me because it just shows the awesomeness of japanese with its short ( you dont have to make full-almost full sentences like in english & get the point across), vague nature (love that about it how you don’t have to say anything directly, you can pussy foot around almost anything that’s difficult to say in Japanese)  yet it’s effective (even though she’s technically like asking if there’s an issue you know no one’s gonna say anything back from the way she says it and just this phrase itself in general… it just feels cutthroat in my opinion.).

何か問題でも

それが何か

「**ですがそれが何か?」

I suppose you could make it into less formal version with だけどそれが何か BUT something about des is more firm and strong… which reminds me of when joshi kousei (high school girls) say ___desukedo to another to sound more firm and strong in asserting whatever point they have as opposed to sounding polite.

So anyways these two phrases are totally useful and very japanese when you need a come-back to say to someone after they question/doubt you or they’re about to ~~~ you etc etc. and if you say it in the right tone (very strong/firm and your personality/aura is not push-over I’m sure they’ll just be like alrighty i won’t question you or if they reallly do have a problem with something  they’ll tell you). or it might piss them off and make them want to kick your ass lol ( this is more for the second phrase sore ga nanika. i don’t think nanika mondai demo would piss anyone off like the way sore ga nanika would). it’s so funny how funny in japanese you don’t have to say profanity or anything specific to piss someone off, it could be wrong keigo or like here you just say ~~~ nanika.  besides what i mentioned there might be other nuances with it depending on blahblahblah  but as long you get the general idea and then come across it in the wild (fun/native material)  then you should be able to grasp ittttttttttttttttttt

ALSO as far as a comeback to this comeback is concerned, i don’t know of any. I think most people would respond with naides.

here’s kurihara’s 5 song picks!

■Ben Kweller「Walk On Me」

■ASH「Walking Barefoot」
夏の涼しげな風景が目に浮かんでくる歌詞とハーモニー、そして外に出かけたくなるように活動的な場面にピッタリで、ASHの中でも僕が特に好きな1曲です。

忘れ去っておくなんし。 くいぎみ

yay I love typing like a jorou lol. 女郎

I wanted to write about one japanese word I came across on a japanese tv show that I like and another i like that i came across from somewhere that i do not recall. i was thinking maybe the second word was something I came up myself and that looked it up and i was like yes it exists! OR i heard it before and somewhere in my subconscious remembered that and that’s why i ended up doing that so technically i didn’t come up with it and then checked whether it existed/is used .

first word is
くいぎみ which means you’re cutting someone off.
ex) person a is asking person b a question and person b answers person a’s question before they finish the whole sentence to ask the question. that is exactly what had happened on that show and then somebody commented (comento ga) kuigimi kuigimi. I actually came across this word in a book before and I looked it up and I understood it and i put it in my deck but it never really stuck with me to the point i would use it. but because of this additional instance that I came across I feel more inclined to use it so i don’t feel as distant and foreign to this word as before where i’m only comfortable with passive understanding. the thing with the instance of kuigimi  in the book is that it’s not as easy to infer the meaning from the setence… all it says is like 食い気味に言った。

I remember hearing the number 200 to really “know” a word but for this one it really helps just having another instance after the first one. actually i realized this my 3rd instance and NOT my second instance because I notcied i have 2 cards in my deck with the word kuigimi (each card is from a different instance).

it was some show with that real hot but super negative model with that cool name.  kurihara rui. louis? SO THIS is my 3rd instance

my second instance was a kaeuta episode and oriental radio/rajio was singing their song and one of the lyrics was
消しゴム貸して」と勇気出す食い気味に「無理」と言われた
ameblo.jp/takatoshidyo/entry-10735107383.html
ameblo.jp/takatoshidyo/day2-20101214.html

so because I didn’t get what it meant i didn’t get the full joke/funniness. so once i looked it up i got it and then i thought oh that’s so depressing 😦

I also love this verb わすれさる
wasureru is just wasureru but I like the nuance with wasuresaru… wasuresaru is what you’d use if you REALLY REALLY WWANT TO FORGET SOMETHING with the 去 kanji and all. 忘れ去る. forgetting something completely. forgetting stuff is pretty desirable sometimes… like completely forget….

helpful! i love the emotionless characteristic of the narrator’s voice

Korean {as it is}

Here are the first three episodes and transcripts of a very amusing Korean TV show called 남녀탐구생활. The Best translation I could come up with is “an investigation into the lives of men and women” but if anyone can suggest a better one then do let me know it.

Thanks to friends from Lang-8 for writing these for me.

Import them into LingQ and get studying.
